I know numbness.
I know uncertainty in taking breaths -
asbestos always lurking in a gasp.
I know the fear of death without a cause.

When I was a child, and afraid,
comfort was a hobo hanging on a tree.
But that was years ago; he died,
and from the tree I built a bed.

This bed has been the bottom of my barrel.
I have blackened lungs and smashed pianos,
burnt the Song of Solomon to dust,
turned my only brother to a widower.

This morning, when the sky blew up,
I wept and shook an anchor out of me.
Now, there's nothing left except my hands,
My feet, and something vaguely like a dream.
Day #30 of NaPoWriMo.
It's finished.

"They walked alone by the old canal
A little confused, I remember well
And stopped into a strange hotel
With neon burning bright
He felt the heat of the night
Hit him like a freight train moving
With a simple twist of fate"

- from "Simple Twist of Fate" by Bob Dylan

Very beautifully written I love poetry it's always been my subject of choice I once submitted in middle school a poem that actually made a little magazine they had in the school but it was so deep and emotional and out there one of my teachers got extremely offended and sent me to the counselors office. lol the price you pay to have a vivid creative imagination.

Thank you so much :)
My goodness, that's ridiculous. I couldn't talk or bring up my poetry in school either, because I knew something like that would happen. Christian school and everything, had to really keep my thoughts hidden back then if I wanted to avoid the fire and the brimstone.

I agree In high school I got accused of writing Satanic symbols on my paper all I did was doodle on my paper lol the counselor was like Samantha is writing the star of David on her paper that's satanic. and my mom was like actually...that's Jewish. lol
